The year was 1927…a half gallon of mil cost 29¢ and five lbs. of sugar was 35¢. On the political scene, Joseph Stalin had taken control of Russia and President Coolidgeannounced he would not run for president in 1928. In technology, x-rays were used for the first time and the iron lung was invented which, for some, polio victims, was their only hope for survival. Henry Ford finally admitted that the Model T was outdated and closed his plant to retool for the Model A which would far outsell the earlier model. The year 1927, was filled with the excitement of the times, however, just ahead a dark and ominous future loomed. In the final year of the decade the stock market would crash leading our country into a depression.

But here, in the foothills of Missouri, a revival had sprung fourth. A group of men was given a vision of a camp that would serve the people of God that lived in this area. Their faith in God built the Herriman Chapel Camp. Many testimonies of salvation and miracles continue to this day. During the week of July 30 through Aug. 6, the Herriman Chapel Camp is celebrating its 90th anniversary.

Herriman Chapel Camp Reunion Singers, directed by Faith Trussell and Fannie Murrell, presented the Celebration of Praise service on Sunday evening, July 30, at the Herriman Chapel Camp tabernacle. Some of the best voices and musicians in the area participated. “Awesome” described the evening of music that was enjoyed by over 220 people. At 6:45 p.m., family and friends had fun as they gathered to take the traditional group picture. Following the Celebration of Praise service, anniversary cake was served in the dinning hall.

On Monday evening, Pastor Aaron Wardlaw and the congregation of the Blue Ridge Church provided uplifting music for the Harmony Hour and the evening evangelistic service. Pastor Joe Dodson and singers from the Black Jack Church were in charge of the music for the Tuesday evening services. On Wednesday evening, Aug. 2, Lowry City COGH, was responsible for the evening music. The Greathouse Family Singers will sing on Thursday evening, Aug. 3.

Pastor Sherice Norman and the worship leaders form the Hill-Stockton, will lead the worship service on Friday evening, starting at 7:30 p.m. This worship team is very dynamic and all members of the family will enjoy the music. Immediately following the evening service, John Peatree will meet with the youth in the chapel and introduce Dr. Delbert Scott, president of Kansas Christian College. A pizza party for the youth, sponsored by KCC, will immediately follow. If you know of a teenager that is searching for a college to attend, KCC may be just the answer.

Parents and grandparents bring your children to Camp Victory at 10:30 a.m. They will enjoy music, story time, games, art/crafts and prizes. Following this special time they will have lunch in the dining hall. This year, Commander Carol Avery will lead the children on a “Quest for Truth.” While the children are learning about seeking truth the adults will enjoy an inspirational worship service followed by lunch with friends. Saturday, Aug. 5, is Family, Friends and Fun day. Join us for a pulled pork/barbeque lunch followed by games for the kids.

On Saturday evening, Aug. 5, Faith Trussell, with the worship team of the El Dorado Springs COGH, will start the evening with music at 7 p.m. and continue their music into the evening evangelistic service. Again, these very talented singers and musician, will make this an evening you won’t want to miss.

Following each evening evangelistic service, the youth will meet in the chapel for their own special time of worship. Ignite, led by John Peatree from The Hill-Stockton, will be a short service, approximately 15-20 minutes, featuring music and a youth speaker that will share his/her testimony regarding their call to the ministry. This service is specially planned for the youth in our area.

A different refreshment will be served each evening…cake/ice cream, watermelon, pie/cobbler, ice cream sundaes, plus more. Don’t miss our pie contest and pie auction planned for Thursday night, Aug. 3. Herriman Chapel Camp is planned for the entire family. Rev. Jack Smith, evangelist, is looking forward to meeting you and your famiy. Join us this week at Herriman Chapel Camp as we serve the families of this area.
