BLESSED ACHIEVEMENT – Judd Abbott Lawson, who celebrated his 7th birthday on Sunday, also celebrated his perfect church attendance and was presented a Certificate of Achievement by Jan Nelsen.

As always, it was a blessing to gather with brothers and sisters in the LORD’s house. Those mentioned for special prayer were Phyllis Shouse, Kerry Schmidt, Christy Teague and the family of Mac French.

Brother Dennis titled his message, “Learning From Mistakes,” and for our Call to Worship,” he used Jonah 1:1 – The Word of the LORD Jonah son of Amittai: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”

Brother Dennis quoted the saying, “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” He said that we could substitute the word ‘mistakes’ for the word ‘history’ and be just as correct. We know that all Scripture is God-breathed and we are to learn from it, (Romans 15:4 – For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us…”). So if it was written to teach us, we need be in God’s Word to learn from it.

One thing that we learn from Scripture is that people make mistakes. That was true then and it is true now and we can learn from their mistakes. The story of Jonah is one example of making a really big mistake. Jonah received God’s call and then ran away to hide from God and God sent a big fish and we all know how the story ends. There are many more examples throughout the Bible of people making big mistakes.

It is the same today. We make mistakes in our lives, wrong choices, foolish actions and hopefully we learn from them. We also learned from God’s Word that it isn’t just about our mistakes it is about admitting them, learning from them and working toward improvement. Learn from Acts 2:37-38. God loves us despite all our faults and the mistakes we make.
