The Cedar County Historical Society gathered on Monday, July 30, in the Stockton museum for an extensive and delicious potluck lunch before the yearly election meeting was called to order. Those present were President Judy Nichols, Vice President Judith Cain, Secretary Connie Maupin, Treasurer Shirley Potts, Luella Phipps, Sheryl Henry, Vernal Henry, Anna Hopkins, Ken Potts, Joe Phillips, Bob Phillips, Chris Barber and Don Cain.

Once the meeting was called to order the membership recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes of the June meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved. President Judy Nichols reported on the museum maintenance fund and it was decided to postpone until next month any decision on replenishment of funds.

Bob Phillips will resume his Cedar County historical stories at the August meeting.

President Nichols reminded all that the membership renewals are due. She also reported that sales of Bob Estes’ new book “Cemeteries of Cedar County, Missouri” is still selling well.

The Black Walnut Festival booth space fee is due and the membership voted to issue a check to the Sertoma Club for payment of that fee. We were informed that the Festival will only be open three days this year; Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27, 28 and 29.

An experiment is being conducted with different settings between the humidifier and air conditioner in hopes of lowering the electric bill. Results will be reported at the August meeting.

Secretary Connie Maupin gave an annual report of membership. This was followed by nominations and election of officers for the 2018-2019 year. The results were: President – Judy Nichols, Vice President – Judith Cain, Secretary – Connie Maupin, Treasurer – Glenda Pate, Assistant Treasurer – Anna Hopkins.

The Society would like to thank Shirley Potts for her service first as Assistant Treasurer and then Treasurer. She declined to return to the position this next year sighting a large number of other claims on her time. She will be missed.

The museum will be open Aug. 4 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and during the monthly meeting held on the last Monday of the month from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission to the museum is free, however the Historical Society and museum are not tax funded and operate on donations from the public.

The next meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Aug. 27, in the museum at 106 West Davis Street in Stockton. Meetings are open to the public and free coffee is provided. The museum is wheel chair accessible.
