Historical Society meets

Members present for the April 20 meeting of the Cedar County Historical Society were President Judy Nichols, Vice President Bob Phillips, Treasurer Kay Snow, Assistant Treasurer Shirley Potts, Secretary Connie Maupin, Luella Phipps, Sharyl Henry, Ken Potts and Chris Barber.

March minutes had been emailed to the members prior to the meeting and were approved. It was voted to continue this practice for future meetings in order to save time.

Judy Nichols reported that some progress is being made in lining up future programs but nothing has been scheduled as yet.

Connie Maupin reported that Best Choice barcodes have been mailed.

Bob Phillips delivered the shelving from the old Fair Play library.

Judy Nichols will purchase a larger frame for our new sign which will accompany our pictures hanging in the Courthouse.

Judy Nichols reported that the Chamber of Commerce has updated our information on their website.

Luella Phipps brought us a very nice donation check from Smith’s Restaurant in Collins.

We have been notified that an impact study involving CCHS is being made for a cell tower at Woods parking lot.

The April board meeting was discussed. It was decided that the membership dues would raise to $15 a year for individuals, $20 for families and $80 for a lifetime membership after July 1. If dues are paid early, before July 1st., they will still be $10 for individuals and $75 for lifetime. The price on some of our publications was increased to be effective on May 1. The complete list will be on our website.

Norma Petty donated a book of pictures and obituaries covering the year 2016.

Our next meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday May 17, in the museum at 106 West Davis Street in Stockton. Our meetings are open to the public. The museum is open the first and third Thursday of the month from 1-4 p.m. or you may call to make an appointment.
