IRIS BELLES GARDEN CLUB – Iris Belles, a Federated Garden Club of Missouri, met on March 17 at Angie’s Cakes of El Dorado Springs. Several members gathered for a bowl of Angie’s delicious soup prior to the start of the meeting. President Dorothy Foster opened the meeting and members read the Opening Vow – “Help us, oh Lord, to grasp the meaning of happy growing things, the mystery of sprouting seed and the opening bud, that we may weave it into the fabric of our faith in life eternal.” The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. The roll call question is always a fun way for everyone present to talk about things happening in their gardens and past memories which usually relate to the program. For this month the question was, “What is your favorite dog breed?” Since we know that dogs are man’s (and woman’s) best friend, there were as many different answers as there were members present. The answer, “I like cats the best” was also accepted.

With spring right at our doorstep, this is a busy season for gardeners and for Iris Belles. We look forward to seeing perennials show themselves after a winter of resting and annuals can be set in place for the new season with a quick burst of color in the garden.

After the business portion of the meeting, Virginia Sprouse shared an interesting book review of “The Hidden Life of Trees”.

Iris Belles meet again at 1:30 p.m. in First Baptist Church, El Dorado Springs on April 21. Visitors welcome.
