Matt Smith has been promoted to Store Manager of the Woods Supermarket in El Dorado Springs. At the age of 17 Matt started working as a carryout at Woods Supermarket in Nevada in 1999 and he has worked hard to achieve his new position.

“I am thankful for the 18 years of experiences and training I have had at Woods and the people that I have met along the way,” said Matt. He credits his managers, trainers, supervisors, co-workers and even his customers for teaching him how to do his job and how to treat the people he serves and works with. “I am excited to take on the responsibility of Store Manager and meet our customers in El Dorado Springs.”

During his food industry career at Woods, Matt has worked in Ft. Scott, Nevada and now El Dorado Springs. Following his start as a carryout in 1999, he advanced to stocker in 2000, Grocery Manager in 2003, Assistant Manager in 2013 and now on May 1, 2017, to Store Manager.

Matt and his wife of even years, Molly, met at Woods. She was a Meat Clerk and for that hire, he wants to thank Lance Raven, the Nevada store’s former Store Manager. The Smiths have two daughters, age 4 years and 7 months. During his off time, Matt likes spending time with “my girls” outside working in the yard.

“When possible Woods Supermarket prefers to promote from within and Matt Smith is a perfect example of someone who has truly earned this promotion,” stated Craig Easter. Woods’ Chief Executive Officer. “Matt is one of the fine young people who have chosen a career in the food retailing and with Woods Supermarket. We are pleased when an associate understands that being ‘Solid Woods’ means being honest, working hard, working smart and understanding that serving the customer means D>E (Doing More Than Expected).”

Lance Raven, who was the Nevada Woods Store Manager from 2006 -2017 and is a 39-year veteran in the retail food industry, has chosen to step down and work less hours. He has moved to the El Dorado Springs Woods as a Shift Manager and to handle special projects when assigned.
