TOPS Chapter 9319 El Dorado Springs met in the United Methodist Church, 201 E Broadway on Thursday, Nov. 29, for their weekly weigh-in and meeting.

Leader Sheryl Ann called our meeting to order and Kay led us in singing “TOPS is Great” We said our TOPS & KOPS pledges.

Marilyn led us in walking inside the building.

Sheryl reported 28 weighed in today. The chapter had a net loss of 16.6 lbs. Wonderful accomplishment for after a holiday.

The weeks best loser was Angie with a loss of 4.8 lbs.

Marble game: the marble game started brand new this week with only $4 in the pot. Judy B won the right to draw but did not get the winning one.

LJ reminded us to bring best choice labels to her.

Upcoming things to remember:

Drawing for the tree raffle. See Sheryl to buy tickets

Dec.13 Christmas party. White elephant gift or new gift $10 limit which ever you have. Bring a healthy low-calorie snack for the pot luck after opening gifts.

Sheryl then turned the floor over to LJ who gave an interesting talk on Defeating Alzheimer’s. The AMA did a study on 1800 people they followed for 14 years to see who developed Alzheimer’s who didn’t and why.

They found the ones that ate the worst food—saturated fats, red meat, cheese, creams, butter and fried foods were 40% most likely to get Alzheimer’s than those who ate properly.

In that group those who exercised daily was 49% less likely to develop Alzheimer’s than those that did not exercise.  Weight was also a huge factor.

Again, healthy eating and exercise are the key to staying healthy. We can not change our “Genes” that may cause us to develop an illness in later life but we can help our body by fueling it correctly and exercising. Thank you, LJ, for a great program.

With no other business meeting was adjourned with our motto “IF IT IS TO BE IT IS UP TO ME”.
