TOPS Chapter 9319 El Dorado Springs met in the Methodist Church on Thursday, May 17, for their weekly weigh in and meeting.

Leader, Sheryl Ann called the meeting to order and Carol led us in singing “TOPSI DOODLE”.

Marilyn presented her yellow rose she got at SRD to Margie.

Marilyn then led us exercise by having us dance to some music.

We welcomed Mary L who has joined our group. Mary is from Stockton and a friend of Carol’s.

We also welcomed Tracy B; Tracy visited us today and is a friend of Juanita’s.

Sheryl led us in roll call and miles walked for the week.

We had 24 weigh in today. The chapter had a net gain of 6.4 lbs. Best loser was a tie between Pat and Sheryl. Each lost 1.4 lbs.

Mary, our new member won the right to draw for the winning marble but did not get the winning one.

We sang Happy Birthday to Susan and Melissa who are celebrating birthdays on May 19.

Remember, Linda H has the program next week so come prepared with a funny story.

Jean talked about SRD: everyone had a wonderful time. Our chapter was very well represented. Steve Scoville was the State Runner Up King, he was 2nd place division winner in his division and chapter King. His wife, Juanita was Chapter Queen and both were KOPS graduates. Our chapter won Gold Star Chapter and won a certificate for being a chapter for 50 years. Next year’s SRD will be in the same place, Springfield Oasis convention center on May 10th and 11th. We have six rooms reserved for that date. Theme will be Fairy Tales Do come true. We are thinking of what Fairy Tale characters we want to be. The 101 Dalmatians went over well this year.

Steve and Juanita had the program today and they talked about reasons we need to give up sugar.

Sugar is not a food, it is empty calories. You would be surprised at all the things added sugar is in. Wheaties cereal has three to four teaspoons sugar in a serving, even low fat fruit yogurt something you would think is healthy has three to four teaspoons of sugar in it.

Sugar makes you fat, Sugar makes you nervous, Sugar causes diabetes, kidney problems and heart disease, sugar causes tooth decay and be careful even toothpaste has sugar in it! Sugar hurts your immune system and Ladies listen up, Sugar causes wrinkles!

All are reasons why we should make it a habit to read labels and cut back on our added sugar intake.
