TOPS Chapter 9319 El Dorado Springs (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) met in the Church of Christ Meeting Room on Thursday, Nov. 30.

Leader Sheryl Walker opened the meeting and Kay S. led us in singing “Our TOPS”.

We said our pledges and Sheryl led us in roll call. Twenty-eight weighed in today and the chapter had a 3.4 net loss.

Susan was the week’s best loser with a loss of 2.2 lbs.

Marilyn led us in some chair exercises.

Juanita presented the program from TOPS Book “Real Life, Real People, Real Weight Loss”.

She talked about exercise and how important exercise is to weight loss. What if there was a pill we could take that would cause weight loss, increase flexibility, and make us feel better? There is no pill but if we were to walk 30 minutes a day all these things would happen.

Attitude = how do you think about exercise? It can be boring and easy to put off. Find fun things you can do that make you move. Even if it is dancing around the kitchen.

Commitment = how dedicated you are to carrying out an exercise program at this time. It takes six weeks to develop a habit. If you can not walk outside the house just walking around inside the house several times a day will get you started.

Self-control = how ready you are to be in control of and responsible for your exercise program. You must make yourself get up and get moving.

Health=how strongly you believe that you will benefit from exercise. As you get in the habit of just moving you will find you feel better.

Start slow and do what you can. Anything you do to get moving is a success!

These thoughts prompted a great discussion from members about how they get moving.

We sang Happy Birthday to Jean.

Sue C won the right to draw for the marble but did not get the winning one.

Don’t forget the December Christmas party on the 14th. White elephant gift exchange and healthy low-calorie snacks.

Sheryl read a letter from our Area Captain, Claudia Gaylord. She reminded us we have just a few weeks to reach the 10 lbs. loss goal for the year. Keep up going to meetings even though the month of December is busy, remember “Cut and Burn”.

She reminded us we can find tons of information at www.tops.org on the web.

With no other business we closed with our song “The More We Get Together” and our motto “IF IT IS TO BE IT IS UP TO ME”.
