Vernon County – Drivers will need to find alternate routes when the Vernon County Route K bridge over the West Fork of Clear Creek near Nevada CLOSES beginning the week of May 29, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The bridge will be closed for up to 80 calendar days while contractor crews replace the old bridge with a new structure, which will be two feet wider than the current bridge.

During the closing of Route K, drivers can get to entrances on either side of the bridge.  However, they will not be able to cross the bridge during construction.

Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the bridge closing. No signed detour is planned, but drivers will have access to U.S. Route 54, Interstate 49 and local roads to reach to their destinations.

The bridge, built in 1959, has experienced substantial deterioration in recent years and must be replaced.

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.
