Morning message at the Rockville United Methodist Church by Pastor Nick Van Dam was titled “Lent” taken from Matthew 4:1-11.

Mt. Zion Home Bible study was held in the home of Tom and Beverly Pelkey each Tuesday at 7 p.m. to study the Bible with eight in attendance; last week we had nine in attendance.

Mt. Zion Club will meet at the Rockville United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 15. Time will be spent tacking quilts, come for dinner and enjoy a day of fellowship.

Sympathy to the Richard Sunderwirth family, funeral services were held Sunday March 5.

Recent visitors in the Howard and Dixie Peterson home have been Haley and Carson Crawford. Kent Crawford and Beth visited last week, Marge Zink was treated to a birthday supper and Dixie has driven herself to church. Dixie Peterson got a good report from the heart doctor, doesn’t return for six months and she is driving the car on short trips.

Glad the former neighbor, Judy Pier, is home from the hospital and doing better, we wish her a speedy recovery. Seems some winter weather tried to return to the Mt. Zion area and we got a little rain which made the wheat fields and grass green up. I do believe this is the first time jonquils have bloomed on my birthday.

Sheri Suster, Beverly Pelkey, Dixie Peterson and Marge Zink enjoyed Bunco at the Lowry City Branch of the St Clair County Library; lots of fun you should try it.

Tom Pelkey kept his eye appointment in Warrensburg getting a good report. Son, Gregg Pelkey, spent the weekend helping cut wood. Both Tom and Beverly are down with the “crud.”

March wind is proving very true hope it blows in a rain we sure could use it. I can’t get over all the flowers and trees blooming so early.

At the Robin Siegismund Farm, Belle is happy with all the new babies to care for seven little goats, Peter, Paul, Mary, Valentine, Surprise, Pete, Repete, Coffee, and Cream. Robin is looking forward to chickens later this week, and all the cows had calves.

Ron Thompson bought a skeet shooter so at the Snethen farm this weekend they were shooting skeet. Julia even surprised son, Ron, by shooting some. The Greenhouses’ were on their property target practicing and everyone was enjoying themselves, they were shooting south and the Snethens were shooting north. At an old barn with shot guns and someone shot three shot east toward where the Snethens were shooting and almost hit Ron. Ron went to the creek to see if it was an accident had happened and someone on daddy property shot and just missed him again so after a few select words from Ron about being on property where they didn’t belong all that was heard was a crashing through the woods. The shooter was not using a shot gun.
