Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04) this week was selected as the ranking member of the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee on the House Armed Services Committee. As the lead Republican, Hartzler’s subcommittee has jurisdiction over ammunition programs, the majority of Army and Air Force acquisition programs, Navy and Marine Corps aviation programs, and the National Guard and Army and Air Force Reserves. This position compliments the vast military interests of Hartzler’s Missouri congressional district.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as ranking member of the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee. As the daughter of an Army reservist, I understand the sacrifices our men and women make every day to defend this great nation,” said Hartzler, who previously chaired the committee’s Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee when the Republicans held the majority.  “In my new role as ranking member of this subcommittee, my goal will be to restore the readiness and capability of our air and land forces to ensure our warfighters, including the National Guard and Reserves, have the resources they need to keep our nation safe. In Missouri’s Fourth District alone, we have 15,000 active duty soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines and over 20,000 National Guard and Reserve members, so this subcommittee is the right place for me to best serve my district,” added Hartzler.

“Vicky is a steadfast advocate for our nation’s military and has been a proven leader on the House Armed Services Committee,” House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Mac Thornberry (TX-13) said. “I am confident Vicky’s leadership will help shape a stronger and more effective force as she serves as the Republican leader on the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee.”

Hartzler’s selection means that she will be the highest-ranking Republican member of the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee. Along with overseeing ammunition and acquisition programs, the subcommittee also authorizes procurement and research and development programs to ensure that America’s soldiers and airmen are fully equipped to carry out their mission and keep our nation safe.

Representative Vicky Hartzler represents Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District in the House of Representatives, which is home to Whiteman Air Force Base and Fort Leonard Wood.
