Cedar County MU Extension Council met on the evening of July 31 at 7 p.m. at the Stockton Lake Dam Shelter. Council members and their families enjoyed ice cream and desserts with a business meeting to follow.

Members in attendance were Tom Bryant, Marlon Collins, Ben Francis, Nedra Fox, Gary Glover, Kelly Hendricks, Glenda Pate, Jim Phillips, Joy Rutledge, Jordan Richner and Rachel Stauffer. Patrick Davis, MU Extension Regional Livestock Specialist and Cedar County Program Director, Julie Spink, MU Extension Cedar County Nutrition Program Associate, Linda Heryford, MU Extension Cedar County 4 – H Youth Development Assistant, Heather Burns, Cedar County MU Extension office support staff and Velynda Cameron, MU Extension Youth Development Specialist housed in Polk County, were also present. The report of the meeting is adapted from meeting minutes provided by council secretary Rachel Stauffer.

Council Chair Kelly Hendricks called the meeting to order and after approval of the minutes and treasurer’s report the council discussed committee reports.

The election committee discussed the vacant City of Stockton position on the council. We are still awaiting an appointee from the City of Stockton to fill the position vacated by Kelly Wrenn. Mary Norrell, mayor of Stockton is working on it.

The program committee discussed the development of a document outlining the expectations of the youth program assistant. Committee members along with Rachel Stauffer will meet with Velynda Cameron before the next council meeting to develop a document on the expectations of the Youth Program Assistant.

There was no old business so we moved to new business. In new business, Council Member Tom Bryant pointed out that the council bylaws state that if a member has been absent for two consecutive meetings that they are to be given notice and encouraged to attend the meetings or resign their position. There is one council member that has missed consecutive meetings since February so the Cedar County MU Extension Center will draft a letter in conjunction with the council and send the letter to the council member that has missed the meetings.

In other business, Patrick Davis discussed topics covered at the last West Central MU Extension Regional Faculty meeting and topics brought up in a video provided by Dr. Marshal Stewart, MU Extension Vice Chancellor of Extension and Engagement. Patrick Davis talked about the times to visit with Marshall Stewart when he is traveling in the region.

Patrick Davis, Julie Spink, Linda Heryford and Velynda Cameron discussed various programs that are going on in the area related to MU Extension.

The next meeting will be on Sept. 11 at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital Health Complex in Stockton at 7 p.m.
