Applications are being accepted for the 2018 Citizens Memorial Junior Volunteers program. Started in 2008 by the CMH Auxiliary, the program has had nearly 100 student participants to date.

Junior Volunteers must be at least 15 years old and maintain a B+ or higher GPA. Sessions start in June and run through August. Junior Volunteers have opportunities to work in a variety of health care settings including medical/surgical nursing units, intensive care unit, obstetrics department, outpatient surgery department, pediatric clinic, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation department and more.

“The best thing about this kind of a program is that it offers students opportunities to see what is available in healthcare,” says Jean Morrow, director of the Junior Volunteers Program.“Another benefit is that they may be able to obtain scholarships for school in the future.”

Applications for the program are accepted in April and May. Students must complete an interview, be accepted into the program, attend a one-day orientation, and volunteer at least eight hours per week during the summer.
