Hurting? Blue Christmas Service may help.

At 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, Stockton Presbyterian Church will hold a Blue Christmas Service which is open to everyone needing some extra comfort and rest this holiday season.

Although the Christmas season is a joyful one for most of us, among us are many who just cannot seem to experience the joy. Whether because of the death of a loved one, living with illness, divorce or some other dis-ease, we find ourselves avoiding the friends, the parties, the celebrations because we just cannot get ourselves to participate.

If you are a part of that group, don’t despair. It’s normal to experience sadness from time to time. Even King David had such an experience. “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, ‘Where is your God?’” Psalm 42:1-3.

The answer? Call on God, be with God’s people and be filled with God’s healing power. But if the festivities make you feel worse, our Blue Christmas service might be just the right thing.

No, it isn’t just an Elvis song, it is a time of healing, comfort and rest in the midst of the clamor of the Christmas season.
