Tom Brewer, 90, of rural El Dorado Springs, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Springfield on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018. Tom was born July 30, 1928, in Fountain, CO, the son of Charles S. Brewer and Pearl (Akers) Brewer. He was raised on a farm with three brothers on the plains east of Colorado Springs, where he graduated from Drennan School in 1947.

He married Hazel Marjorie Campbell on Sept. 3, 1947, in Raton, NM and they were happily married for 68 1/2 years. They moved to Missouri in the late 40’s and made their home in El Dorado Springs. Tom went to work in the early 50’s as an auto mechanic. He worked for over 40 years, beginning at the Ford Dealership on north Main Street, which eventually moved to Hwy. 54.

As a young man, Tom was well known for his pitching abilities and played for several local softball teams. He enjoyed taking his family on camping and fishing trips from the Midwest to the Rockies. He was a Deacon and an Elder at First Christian Church and Park Street Christian Church of El Dorado Springs. He enjoyed carving and woodworking. He along with his wife, Hazel, did a lot of volunteer work which included the Cedar County Election Board and Meals on Wheels.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Wyman Smith; wife, Hazel; one brother, Floyd; granddaughter, Marquise Brewer; brothers-in-law. Dale Campbell, Lloyd Hoerning and Bud Campbell; and sisters-in-law, Bobbie and Irene Brewer, LeAnn and Ruth Campbell.

Tom is survived by his four children: Linda Brewer Smith of El Dorado Springs, Ron Brewer and wife, Teresa, of Nevada, Donald Brewer and wife, Diana, of Oologah, OK, and Tammy Brewer of Clinton; two brothers:, Charles Brewer and wife, Ethel, and Wes Brewer and wife, Julie; one brother-in-law, Oren Campbell; two sisters-in-law, Carol Hoerning and Mary Breshears; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Park Street Christian Church with Camron Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the Virgil City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Troy Smith, Derek Smith, Ryan Smith, Cody Smith, Jerimiah Brewer, Colton Brewer and honorary pallbearer, Thomas Brewer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and left at the funeral home.
