Esther Ruth Wilcox Brown was born in Springfield on July 4, 1925, to Victor Willard Wilcox and Jessie Lylian Mosher Wilcox. She passed on to glory on May 24, 2018.

She married John Thomas Brown on 15 June 1942. John was still bringing her flowers weekly after 75 years of marriage.

Esther completed her GED in 1973 and although she did not attend, was accepted to the degree program at SMSU. She was very proud of this as she put great value on education.

She was a talented artist and an avid reader. She found her calling as a nursing assistant and worked at Cox North until she was disabled.

Esther was a great believer in TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) as a weight loss support group. She had no qualms about approaching an overweight person in a shop or on the street and inviting them to come to a meeting. Esther had reached her goal weight and was an inspiration to those who knew her.

Esther is survived by her husband, John Brown; children Lylian Rogers of Benton, KY; Nancy and Laddie Tabor of Columbus, KS; John David, Lane and Karen Brown of Flagstaff, AZ and Norman and Diann Braun of Osawatomie, KS; grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Wilcox and Grace Brown, both of Springfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.

John and Esther have been residents of Ft. Scott, KS, Medical Lodge, 915 S Horton, since 2013.

A memorial service was held there Saturday, June 9. Interment will be at the Ft. Scott National Cemetery when she and John are reunited.

Memorials may be donated to local food pantries.
