Gerald G. Brown, 90, El Dorado Springs, passed away at home surrounded by family on June 1, 2017. He was born Oct. 7, 1926, in Beaver County, OK, the second son of Glenn and Georgia (Owens) Brown. The family moved out of the Oklahoma dust bowl to Missouri in 1934.

Gerald attended school through the eighth grade at the Oak Ridge School near Portia and graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1943. In January 1945, he joined the U.S. Army where he served as a Tech 4 primarily in Japan until his discharge in November 1946. He hired on with Mid-America Dairymen in January 1949 where he worked until his retirement in December 1988.

He married Ruth Mullins on Aug. 11, 1950, and they had five children over the next 12 years.

Gerald enjoyed his farm, hunting, fishing and traveling. His greatest joy in life was his family, his wife of almost 67 years, five children, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a myriad of others who claimed him as Grandpa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David and Ray; and three grandsons – Jerry Brown Jr., Gary Brown and Tim Cooper.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons – Jerry (Darcy) of Sarcoxie, Tom (Marie) of Lebanon, and Brian (Lisa) of El Dorado Springs; two daughters, Jo Cooper of Pleasant Hill and Leslie Fincher (Glenn) of Greenfield; his grandchildren and great -grandchildren; two sisters, Marvelene (Roy) Dennis and Darlene Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 8, in El Dorado Springs City Cemetery with Rev. Don Barger officiating. Music will be “How Great Thou Art.”

Casket bearers will be Newton Fincher, Andrew Bordenkecker, Clinton Vickers,        Chris Vickers, Denny Dennis and Scott Roe.

Honorary casketbearers will be his grandchildren.
