Marjorie Young, 98, went to be with her Lord Monday afternoon, Aug. 14, 2017, from the comfort of her own home in Nevada.

Marjorie was born April 25, 1919, in Dallas County to I.N. (Isaac) and Alta (Parrish) Miller. She was preceded in death by her loving parents; her husband, Victor W. Young; and brother, Dwight “Johnny” Miller. Marjorie had nine half-siblings: Oliver, Floyd, and Bill Rose, Flossie Hanners, Lizzie Stroud, Lena Lawson, Ruby Rouse, Romey and Homer Miller, and one step-brother Lawrence Percival, all of whom preceded her.

Marjorie and Victor are survived by three children – Betty (Marvin) Davison, Nevada, John (Sharon) Young, El Dorado Springs and Barbara (Harry) Jester, Mount Juliet, TN. She was “Grandma Margie” to nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great- grandchildren.

Just shy of 18 years, with the blessing of her father, Marjorie married high school sweetheart Victor (Vic) Young, on April 7, 1937, in Buffalo. Vic and Marjorie made Buffalo their home for the first few years of their union before purchasing a farm in Long Lane, MO.

In a time when not many children studied beyond the 8th grade, Marjorie sought the opportunity to further her studies by working and paying her own expenses while she attended Buffalo High School. She graduated in 1937 along with her soon-to-be husband, Victor Young, and her older brother, Johnny.

As a young teenager Marjorie gave her life to Christ and actively served at Pisgah Baptist Church (Long Lane, MO) in many capacities such as teaching Sunday School and Summer Bible School. After the passing of her late husband, she moved to Nevada to be closer to family and has been a member of First Baptist Church since 1978.

Marjorie was a 4-H leader, loved gardening and had an impeccable reputation for her delicious cooking and entertaining.

Services were held Friday, Aug. 18, in Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Harry Jester officiating. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery, near Long Lane.
