Marjorie Fields

Ellen Marjorie (Gundy) Fields, 90, of El Dorado Springs, went to glory June 16, 2019.

She was born May 24, 1929, in Walker to Ralph Francis Gundy and Helen Ruth Harden, between her two brothers, Elvin Oran Gundy and Robert Wayne Gundy.

After graduating from El Dorado Springs High School in 1947, she moved to Kansas City and worked as a secretary until she married Raymond E. Fields on July 16, 1947.

Marjorie became a Christian at a young age and faithfully served the Lord all of her life.  She served the Fairview Community Church in Osiris as a VBS teacher, Sunday school teacher, singing and playing the piano for church, and as church secretary.

Besides helping Raymond on the farm, she worked as a seamstress for Dunbrooke Shirt factory, Nelly Don Dresses and Junior House, where she made many friends.

Raymond and Marjorie lived in the Montevallo and Olympia area for over 60 years.  Besides farming, for several years they raised chickens and sold eggs to neighbors and a hatchery.  Before she would go to work, she would milk the cow and make sure everyone was up and getting ready for the day.

She also served as a 4-H project leader and judged many events for 4-H.  After her retirement, she and Raymond traveled to many states to see the wonders of the USA, and many times to attend his WW-2 Army reunions.  Marjorie recently celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends.

Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents, Ralph and Helen Gundy; two brothers, Elvin and Bob, in 1982, her husband, Raymond, in June 1995, and son-in-law, Bill Johnston, in March 2015.

Left to celebrate her life are Marjorie and Raymond’s four children – Deanna Johnston, Sheila (Ross) Simon, Kenny (Patti) Fields and Melanie (Dan) Fugate; six grandchildren – Suzi (Randy) Ridgway, Jess (JaNetta) Daniels, Wendi C. Fields, Nathan (Caitlin) Fields, Jarod (Mariana) Hoffman and John Praphan “Pun” Boonyakiti; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and many, many friends who became her extended family.  Her door was always open to family and friends, and the table set with good food. She always had a kind word and a smile. Marjorie touched many people with her love and tenderness.

Services were held on Saturday, June 22, in the First Christian Church with burial in Virgil City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Nathan Fields, Jarod Hoffman, Randy Ridgway, Jess Daniels, Ethan Daniels and John “Pun” Boonyakiti.  Honorary pallbearers were Bob Steward, Boyd Fields, Gene Fast, Norman Chase and Charles Boultinghouse.

Memorial donations may be made to Fairview Community Church Missions Fund and left at the funeral home.
