Richard Mack Button

Richard Mack Button, 74, passed away on Aug. 1, 2017, at his home in El Dorado Springs.

Richard was born in Kansas City, KS, on Sept. 20, 1942, the younger son of Ralph and Lucille Button of Warsaw. He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1960. Richard was drafted into the United States Army in 1966 and volunteered for a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968 based in Cam Ranh. He obtained the rank of Specialist 5 before being honorably discharged in October 1968.

Richard married Annette Stiles on July 4, 1969, in Vancouver, British Columbia. They spent their early years of marriage in Bellevue, WA, and San Diego, CA, before returning to Edwards, MO, in 1971, where they raised horses and cattle and ran their own delivery service, Osage Express, until 1989 when they sold the farm and the business and moved to El Dorado Springs. Richard was an over-the-road driver for TransAm and then D&D Sexton and retired in 2009.

He loved to be outdoors and was an avid fisherman, spending time on the water whenever possible – a passion he was happy to share with friends and family of all ages. Other hobbies included flying, hunting and shooting. Richard was very involved in his church, spending every Wednesday evening helping to serve meals for school age children.

Richard is survived by his wife, Annette; his daughters – Elena Button and Holly Clayton of Siloam Springs, AR, and Charis Covington of Puyallup, WA; six grandchildren – Micah Button, Mason Clayton, Connor Clayton, Ian Clayton, Areley Knox Clayton and Kylie Covington; his brother, Ed Button, of Charlotte, NC, and other family and friends.

Family suggests contributions be made to the El Dorado Springs Christian School in care of Sheldon Funeral Home in El Dorado Springs.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 19, in the Church of God (Holiness) El Dorado Springs with Pastor Joe Trussell officiating. Music was “Over Shadowed,” “Amazing Grace, ” “O What A Savior” and “He’s Always Been Faithful.” Final disposition was cremation under direction of Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs. www.sheldonfh.com.
