Sammie Elton Harris, 92, of Osiris, passed away March 16, 2019. He was born to Alfred and Bertha (Shockley) Harris in the Osiris community near Jerico Springs. He spent the first 87 years of his life in the same area. He entered Truman Health Care at Lamar in January 2015.

Sam was a lifelong farmer. He had a knack for fixing a piece of machinery when it broke down. He was a hard-working man. Sam loved fox hunting and quail hunting in his younger years.

He married Lois Metcalf in 1948 and they had one son, Rickie. They divorced in 1985, and he was later married to Marion Cox, which also ended in divorce.

Preceding Sam in death were his son, Rickie Harris; his parents; four infant siblings; a brother, Harvery (Bud) Harris; three sisters – Maxine Neely, Geneal Caywood and Bonnie McBride; two nephews, Max Neely and Gregory Harris; foster granddaughter, Carrie Hogue; and stepson, Pat Cox.

Survivors include foster son, Marvin Hogue, and his son, Trey, of Lamar; step-daughter, Nanette, and her two daughters, of Michigan; step-grandson, Stephen Cox, of El Dorado Springs; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many loyal friends.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in Fairview Church, Osiris. Arrangements are under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
