Maxwell, Shane 1cc

Shane arrived on Earth on Dec. 8, 1970, and learned all the secrets of this impossible, impractical why on Dec. 5, 2016. He wouldn’t have wanted to go because of his boys, Nathan, five, and Willis, two, but his time had arrived.

A heartfelt thank you to the Samaritans who unhesitatingly went to him so he wouldn’t be alone; a brave and precious response of kindness, character and connection. Shane’s ancestors were already there.

Shane had always been curious, adventurous, charismatic and happy, of late, very happy. He has had great joy and success while working and entertaining his co-workers at Cates Auction Real Estate Company, his own auction service and The Kansas City Star. He has loved Kansas City, W & W. His passions have been many, but he favored exploring the creeks, rivers, bluffs and fields around El Dorado, Weaubleau and Osceola hunting arrowheads; also junque collecting, cooking, photographing, learning, reading and traveling-especially to the Black Hills.

Time shared with family, friend, co-workers, clients and strangers has been maddening, funny and happy indeed, but his greatest joy and limitless love has been for and because of his wee boys. No Lego, puzzle, book, rock, spider, praying mantis, beetle, fish, bird, feather, leaf, grape, flower, seed, weed, skull, etc has been safe from exploration, discussion and display.

For Halloween has was ‘the man’ in 6’ 3” blinding yellow to Will’s Curious George and Nathan’s robot dinosaur (he designed and built).

Christmas presents he has ordered have been arriving.

Shane’s absence will be felt a very long time but he strides on the hanging highway…the Milky Way and is plainly, magnificently and endlessly visible in the night sky. Look up and see the unmistakable energy of a well lived life. Go well, Shane, we love you everyday.
