Stephen Roby, 68, departed his earthly home to be with the Lord on April 17, 2019.

A celebration of his life was held on April 23, 2019, at Stockton Christian Church. Reverend Michael Tunnel officiated and Hospice Chaplain Kenny Batson assisted. Music was provided by Gaila Beach.

Stephen Craig Roby, son of Henry and Marletta Roby, was born on April 24, 1950, in Manhattan, KS. His early years were spent in Overland Park, KS, where he was baptized in the Christian Church at the age of 9.

He acquired his passion for the outdoors from his father who taught him how to hunt and fish. The family later moved to Jefferson City where he graduated high school in 1968.

Steve served in the United States Army from February 1970 until December 1971, including a tour in Vietnam. After returning to the States, he enrolled at the University of Missouri – Columbia graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture in May of 1977.

In 1975, Steve married his best friend, Barbara Faulkner. They were blessed with two children, Clinton and Jessica.

Steve served as a Park Superintendent in four Missouri State Parks for 15 years beginning in 1979. He and his family enjoyed life at Roaring River State Park, Battle of Athens State Park, Washington State Park and Stockton State Park. The family decided to remain in Stockton leading to Steve’s retirement from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. He then began his career as the agent for Cedar County Farm Bureau until he retired in 2012. He enjoyed serving his neighbors and friends as their trusted insurance agent for 18 years.

Steve and his family have been members of the Stockton Christian Church since moving to Stockton.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Steve loved nothing more than sharing his love for the outdoors with his friends, children and other young people.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; son, Clinton and his wife, Beth; daughter, Jessica Rush, and her husband, JaRon; granddaughter, Talia Rush; grandson Reed Roby; brothers, Scott Roby and his wife, Rita, and Brad Roby and his wife, Leslie; sister, Susan Mohlman, and her husband, Clayton; three nephews and three nieces.

Because of the excellent care provided by his children and Heartland Hospice, Steve was able to remain in his home until his death. Memorial contributions to Heartland Hospice or American Cancer Society may be mailed to Bland-Brumback Funeral Home, P.O. Box 444, Stockton, MO 65785.
