Raymond Leslie Crooks

Raymond Leslie Crooks, 84, a country boy from Oklahoma, who often slept in a woodshed as a child in order to make room in the house for his siblings. He became a Christian missionary in Jamaica, a pastor, a professor, and president of a Bible college. He enjoyed residing at Liberty Heights Retirement Campus in Colorado Springs, CO. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, after a brief bout with cancer.

The seventh of 12 children, “Ray” was born to Pearl and Goldie Crooks on March 24, 1931, in May, OK.     Velma Luberta (Shoemaker) Henderson, 94, El Dorado Springs, passed away Oct. 20, 2015. She was born May 19, 1921, in El Dorado Springs to Jesse V. and Lula M. Shoemaker.

    Luberta spent all but two years of her life in El Dorado Springs and graduated from the El Dorado Springs High School in 1939. She joined her dad, brother and sister in the grocery business, Shoemaker’s Grocery, where she worked for 49 years.

    Carol D. Golubski, 54, of Kansas City, passed away on Oct. 15, 2015, surrounded by her family. Carol was born Dec. 9, 1958, in Kansas City to Alan and Maxine Carpenter.

    She was a 1977 graduate of NKC High School. She loved to travel, her music, animals and spending time with family. As a child, she especially enjoyed time spent with her grandparents, Albert and Lucile Stark, at their farm south of Harwood.

    Bobbie Lee (Short) Mallicoat, 88, was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Monegaw Springs to Frank and Alma (Dunn) Mallicoat. He went to Heaven to meet his Heavenly Father and wife, Otha, on Oct. 13, 2015.

    B.L. (Short) married Otha Mae Richey on July 17, 1957. They lived most of their married life west of Monegaw Springs. In 2004 they moved to the family farm to be closer to family for health reasons.

    Donald Hugh Reaves, 85, El Dorado Springs, passed away at his home on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015. Don was born Nov. 4, 1929, in Exeter, CA, the son of Jesse and Vergie (Jones) Reaves. He attended school in Charity, MO.

    On Dec. 24, 1948, Don married Dorothy Weeks, and they remained married until her passing on June 3, 2011. To this union four children were born – Mike, Marla, Dorene and Melvin.
