Wynetta Parks, El Dorado Springs, called Sunday to tell the Sun that the 15-year-old girl who was abducted Sept. 20 in Buffalo and found Sept. 30 in Truman Lake near Warsaw was her great-granddaughter, Khighla Leann Parks, granddaughter of Dean Parks.

As of Tuesday, Anthony Balbirnie, 47, a repeat drug offender, remained in custody after a high speed chase, charged with abandoning a corpse.

Court records say Balbirnie stopped on the Hwy. 7 bridge over the Osage Arm of Truman Lake and dropped her weighted down body into the lake in the wee hours of the morning. It was discovered by fishermen.

According to a probable cause statement, a female companion of Balbirnie told authorities she saw him “participate” in preparing the victim’s body for transport. That has authorities looking for more suspects.

As of Tuesday, Sgt. Pace with the Highway Patrol told the Sun the murder is still under investigation, as did the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
