Mancel Eugene Walker, 76, rural El Dorado Springs, passed away at his home on Tuesday morning, Oct. 23, 2012.
He was born near Montevallo on Sept. 28, 1936, to Arch Mancel Walker and Fleeta Alyene (Dodd) Walker. He attended Fairview School until 8th grade then graduated high school at Stockton. For a while, he attended college at University of Arkansas then came home to the farm to raise milk cows and beef cattle.
He was saved at age 12 in 1948.
He married Mary Blanche Gay on Oct. 28, 1957. To their union two children were born.
Eugene was employed at and retired from Cedar County Memorial Hospital. He was a faithful member and superintendent of Fairview Community Church near Jerico Springs. He was an active member of the Olympia Fire Department. One of his greatest joys was helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers-in-law.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; two children, Mark Mancel Walker – Branson and Karen Gayle Gleich and husband, Dan – Oak Grove; three grandchildren – Julie, Joseph and Jacob Gleich; two sisters, Ruth Green and Elaine Reynolds; six nieces; five nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
Services were held on Friday, Oct. 26, in Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Gould officiating. Interment followed in Brasher Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Stanley Ehlers, Greg Reynolds, Joel Green, Jarrod Green, Charlie Green and Seth Ehlers. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Fugate, Kenny Fields and Zack Reynolds.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fairview Community Church and left at the funeral home.
