ECS volleyball wins state in nail biter

The El Dorado Christian School Lady Buffalos traveled to Joplin to play in the state volleyball tournament on Oct. 25-27 and came home the 2012 MCSSA state champions.

The teams in their division are Community Christian Academy from Barnhart, Liberty Christian Academy from Wright City, both near St. Louis, New Salem from Marble Hill, Eagle Ridge from Cape Girardeau, Westwood Academy from Poplar Bluff, Plaza Heights from Blue Springs, Training Center from Garden City and Tri City from Independence.

After two days of pool play the Lady Buffalos had all wins and one split. ECS advanced Friday night with a win over Westwood 25-13 and 25-9. Saturday morning the Lady Buffalos advanced to the Championship game with a win over New Salem 25-11 and 25-14.

The Lady Buffalos faced Tri City in the Championship, the team they split with in pool play. The Buffalos won the first set with a 25-18 victory and lost the second set 20-25 which led to a third set going to 15. Both teams had used both their time outs after the score reached 13-13 and, with the encouragement from the Seniors on the team, the Lady Buffalos pulled ahead and won 18-16 with what had to be the most intense and unforgettable game of the season. This gave El Dorado Christian their first ever Volleyball State Championship.

Individual awards went to Bailee Bybee and Toni Hallam – All State 1st Team, and Tiffani Hallam – All State 2nd Team. 2012 players are – Seniors: Bailee Bybee, Toni Hallam, Tiffani Hallam, Samantha White and Jessica Jones; Juniors: Christanne Middleton, Kristen Castor, Emily Jones, Brooke Bland, Sarah McKinney and Olivia Witt. Sophomore: Mary Mocanu.
