Allen, Mary obituary 1 cc .tif

Mary Frances (Ennis) Allen, 100, passed away Nov. 16, 2012, in Community Springs Healthcare. She was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Johnstown, to Orie Ralph and Jeanette I. (Shelton) Ennis. She had 10 brothers and sisters. Her older sister, Leona Jebb, of Reno, NV, died at the age of 104 in 2010.

On Sept. 1, 1933, Mary married Chester W. Allen. They had three daughters – E. Marie, L. Maxine and Rhea.

Mary did not drive, so she did a lot of walking to where she wanted to go. She also was a hard worker most of her life, so that probably made a difference in keeping good health as long as she did. When she was no longer able to stay by herself, she went to Community Springs Nursing Home in El Dorado Springs.

She was active in the El Dorado Springs United Methodist Church as long as she was able. She worked at the “Little Store” across from the High School, at Ben Franklin Store in El Dorado Springs, cleaned houses for people and sat with the elderly when they required someone to help them. At one time she was also employed by the Shoe Factory for a short period of time, as well as Community Springs Nursing Home.

Mary had the gift of mercy operating in her life. She was always happiest when she could help at her church preparing for all the functions or helping her family. She will always be remembered by those who loved her.

She accepted Jesus as her Savior in 1957 and then rededicated her life in 1987. She always said that if everyone would learn the Lord’s Prayer and repeat it morning, noon and night, that when the storms of life came, you would be able to make it through anything.

Preceding Mary in death were: her parents, all her brothers and sisters, her husband – Chester and her daughter – Marie.

Those left to mourn her leaving are her daughters, Maxine Allen – Springfield and Rhea (Glen) Smith – Osceola; seven grandchildren – Bill (Donna) Willett – East Peoria, IL; Debra Caraway – Texas; Terri (Bruce) Tesdall; Richard (Barb) Irons – East Peoria, IL; Randy (Jeanne) Fox – Willard, Jim (Cheryl) Smith – Nevada and Nancy Smith – Parker, CO; 14 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services for Mary Allen will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, with visitation from 1-2 p.m. Rev. Sam Hinkle will officiate. Burial will follow in El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are: Randy Fox, Glen Smith, Jim Smith, Bill Willett, Richard Irons and Colton Willett.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to El Dorado Springs United Methodist Church and left at the funeral home.
