Not hot enough for popsicles

Mt. Zion Home Bible study was held in the Tom and Beverly Pelkey home Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. to study the Bible; always welcome.

Mt. Zion Club will meet May 16, at the home of Marge Zink. A plant exchange will be the entertainment with the meeting to start at 1 p.m.

Mt. Zion got some much needed rain. The leaves are getting bigger, the fruit trees a beautiful, full of blossoms, the oaks are in their pretty pink stage, but I found no mushrooms; some of the old timers have found a few. I thought my bleeding heart plants had suffered from a heart attack during the cold the past week but they are going to bloom, flowers are tough.

Dixie Peterson was happy to make it to church on Sunday.

Beverly Pelkey has a hard time keeping up with her kittens as the mother cat moves them; wonder if she is one of those who would rather move them than clean house. Beverly found a home for them. Tom is mowing grass and filling the wood shed, his container garden is doing well.

Mt. Zion Cemetery board met last week in the Harold and Betty Rosbrugh home, it is time to send in your donation and clean up the cemetery. Memorial Day will be here soon, flag ceremonies at Mt. Zion will be May 28.

Former neighbors, Stan and Helen Nixon, and Gregg, visited Clyde Gill and Marge Zink before returning home to El Dorado, KS, was good visiting with them.

Over at the Robin Siegismund Farm the chickens are laying plenty of eggs and more are about to hatch. Belle is glad for warmer weather even if Robin said “not hot enough for a Popsicle yet.” Belle said the kittens at Mabel’s house are cute for kittens.

John and Julia Snethen had a quite week but John did take Julia out for dinner for her birthday on Tuesday evening. They have been planting flowers that Julia got for her birthday and both of Julia’s bleeding hearts made it through the winter. John found out he had been cutting off her day lilies all last year. Julia did get some new solar lights to mark their path but is afraid to put them out because of John and his weed whacker. John and Julia attended the Butler FFA Banquet on Friday evening and saw granddaughter, Kayla Snethen, installed as secretary of that chapter. John went to the races at Wheatland with son, Michael, and grandson, Logan, and David and Hayden Schapeler, of Prairie City Saturday night.
