LWR has much to be thankful for throughout the year, but is especially aware of their blessings during this time of year. The fundraising dinner held on Nov. 9 was attended by generous people from several communities who enjoyed some very tasty food and lively silent auction bidding. They were also blessed by music and singing by Justen McCarter.
The dinner and silent auction were made possible by donations from various Branson shows and events, Jesse and Lori Butler, Susan Williams’ Close to my Heart Scrapbooking, Bolivar Walmart, Hamel Woodworking, Thirty One Consultant Janelle Fugate, Avon Representative Erin Kottwitz, Mary Kay Consultant Teresa Colby, Alicia’s Hair Affair, Four Seasons of Clinton, Scentsy Rep Christina Cox, Friends of Jesus Church Osceola, Pizza Glen, Clinton Smith’s Restaurant, Golden Corral Clinton, and Los Compradre’s Clinton. Desserts were donated by special friends of LWR. A huge thank you to everyone who donated, helped set up, and cleaned up. Also, thank you to Boy Scout Troop 437 for allowing LWR to use their building to host the dinner.
A Thanksgiving Dinner was hosted by LWR for the consumers and caregivers from Four Seasons in Clinton. Golden Corral donated a delicious baked turkey and a donated ham made up the main entrée. The luncheon was made complete by everyone bringing in various dishes to go with it. A special thank you goes to Barb and Gene Holtgrewe, Anita Slocum, Savannah Maxwell and Alex Collins for helping set up, serve and clean up after the dinner. Angie Postel led the group in a craft activity while waiting on lunch to be served. Thank you also to the Clinton Assembly of God Church for allowing LWR to use their beautiful church kitchen and fellowship hall for the dinner. Plans are to make this Thanksgiving luncheon an annual event for adult special needs people and their caregivers.
The next LWR event coming up is the annual Christmas from the Heart. The dates and locations are Osceola: Dec. 12 from 1pm-5pm at the Community Building at Lakeview Apartments and Lowry City: Dec. 15 from 10am-2pm at the Lowry City Civic Center. Both events will provide the materials for children to make gifts for their family members for Christmas. While attending, children will make, wrap and label their gifts to take home and put under their Christmas tree. They will also be treated to a hot meal of soup and sandwiches during the day. Children ages 4 and up and their parents are invited to attend. Parents of children 4-6 are asked to stay with their children to assist. This is the fifth year of hosting Christmas from the Heart and funding for this free outreach is received from the Truman Lake Community Foundation and area churches and businesses. A Christmas drawing is being held to help fund the outreach and help with winter expenses for the camp. The main item in the drawing is a locally crafted cedar chest made by Brian Hamel, Hamel Woodworking, and a handmade quilt. Other items include various gift certificates from area businesses including a $25 Walmart gift certificate, $25 cash, $20 gas gift certificate and more. Donations to help with the outreach are welcome.
