The USPS has created a special PO Box to send cards and letters of condolences to the folks of Newtown, CT. It’s PO Box 3700, Newtown, CT 06470. No specific name is required. Becky Wood saw this and thought you’d like to know.

– It might not be politically correct, but I think I may be in favor of arming school teachers, with the appropriate training, of course. How many planes have been highjacked since they armed pilots? None that I’ve heard.

The state legislature in Wisconsin (I think) has passed a concealed carry law that includes schools. It’s awaiting the governor’s signature. If that principal who charged the shooter had a gun, the outcome may have been different.

You can’t ever expect to get all the guns off the street – if you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns and that leaves law abiding citizens as helpless sheep. So, let the good people carry guns. I heard Ben Stein say that prohibiting guns in San Diego and Washington D.C. has not prevented gun murders. But his small town in Montana where almost everyone carries a gun doesn’t have that problem. He said the Aurora, CO, shooter would have likely had 20 guns pointed at him from the theater audience. That’s enough to make criminals reconsider. And that’s the idea.

I hope lawmakers don’t get crazy.

– Are you ready for some Christmas? Better make that: Ready or not, here I come.

We’re ready for Adrian and Davis to come home. All we know right now is to expect them some time before Christmas.

– We’ve got to have early deadlines so our fellow employees and those at the printer can have time for themselves and their families at Christmas.

So, our deadline on articles and ads is noon Friday, Dec. 21. We will have to work Friday and Saturday so everyone around here can be off Christmas Eve and Christmas day. I will go over Christmas night (or just after midnight Wednesday) to bring the papers back so the mailroom crew (which looks a lot like the regular crew with one addition, Fern) can get them ready to go over the counter and in the mail.

As far as we know, we will have the same early schedule for New Year’s – deadline noon Friday, Dec. 28.

– I’ll keep it simple, which makes it easier to accomplish: We wish you a Merry Christmas. It couldn’t get any simpler or humble than a baby in a manger.
