The joy of this Christmas season has been darkened by the tragedy in Newtown, CN. Once again, it appears as if evil has triumphed. Our hearts bleed when we see the pictures of innocent children who were brutally murdered in such a senseless act.
Because evil exists we know true lasting peace cannot be experienced through our own efforts. But the first Christmas when the Son of God came to earth and took on human flesh gives us hope that true peace might be realized some day. When Christ comes the next time he will establish his kingdom and real peace will reign on the earth. That is the hope of Christmas!
As the songwriter wrote many years ago, the bells are still ringing to say: “God is not dead, nor doth he sleep; The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, With peace on earth, good will to men.”
