Viola Fern Koehn, 79, Walker, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, in Christian Healthcare, Nevada, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 4, 1933, in Mound Ridge, KS, to Henry R. Smith and Eva O. Becker Smith. She married Melvin L. Koehn on Sept. 18, 1955, in Burns, KS, and he survives of the home.
Viola was raised in Kansas. She came to Rich Hill in 1957 and later moved to Walker in 1961. She worked at the Nevada City Hospital for a number of years as a nurses’ aide. Viola also worked by her husband’s side on the family farm for many years. She was a member of the Living Faith Mennonite Church, Walker.
Survivors in addition to her husband, Melvin, include two children, Vickie Koehn and Marlo Koehn, both of the home; four grandchildren – Robyn Schmidt and her husband – Darren, Jamin Koehn and his wife – Amanda, Brian Koehn and his wife – Hollie, and Carla Koehn; seven great-grandchildren – Logan, Benjamin, Bridgette, Braxton, Kolby, Miles and Kaiden; two brothers, Marvin Smith and his wife, Winnie – Chickasha, OK, and John Smith and his wife, Norma – Burns, KS; four sisters – Betty Schmidt and her husband – Marvin, Burns, KS, Irene Smith – Escondido, CA, Velma Koehn and her husband – Verlin, and Vivian Swarey and her husband – Christ, all of Almena, WI; sister-in-law, Hope Becker – Halstead, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sons, Monty Koehn and Douglas Koehn.
Services were held Friday, Dec. 28, in the Living Faith Mennonite Church with interment following in the Living Faith Mennonite Cemetery, Walker.
Arrangements were under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
