WRESTLING CLUB COMPLETES SEASON – The El Dorado Springs Wrestling Club has just finished its 6th season. The wrestlers, ages 4-14 participated in practices from November through December. Several also participated in the El Dorado Springs and Butler wrestling tournaments.
Coach Justin Stratton took his wrestlers to three meets in the past two weeks with good results.
“I took 12 boys to the Smith Cotton tournament in Sedalia on Jan. 5. We medaled 10 of the 12 in their individual weight classes.”
First place finishes went to Koty Steward, Gage Miller, Kelly Rice, James Dubois, Haden Harper and Tanner Hixson. Ryan Parshall and Logan Perridon took 2nd place. Austin Burlingame and Matt Thurman got 3rd place.
It was a good tournament. They did a lot of things right at this one that we hadn’t been doing. Obviously, we have a lot to work on.
They pulled off some pretty good wins.
We haven’t gone against a lot of district opponents yet. We are wrestling a lot of bigger schools but we haven’t got to see everybody yet.
On Thursday, Jan. 10, the wrestlers went to a tri-meet in Buffalo against Glendale and Buffalo.
Against Buffalo, Austin Burlingame won because they were open at 106. At 120, Logan Perridon pinned his opponent. Josey Smotherman lost at 126. Jacob Boleyn won at 132. Matthew Thurman lost at 138. At 145, we were open and took a loss. At 152, we took a loss. James Dubois, at 160, got a win. We were open at 170. At 182, Ryan Parshall won. At 195, Gage Miller took a loss at 195. We were open at 220. Koty Steward took a loss at 285.
Against Glendale, we lost at 106. We won at 120. We lost at 126. We won at 132. We lost at 138. At 145 we were open. Haden Harper took at loss 152. James Dubois took a loss at 160. We were open at 170. Ryan Parshall got a win at 182. Gage Miller lost at 195. We were open at 220. Koty Steward took a loss at 285.
They were both Class 3. We are Class 1. Honestly, we would have beaten Buffalo if I had those two boys weigh in. Their coach came up and patted me on the back and said, “I’m sure glad your roster wasn’t complete tonight.”
Nevada turned out good for us. At 106, Austin Burlingame took home 3rd place. Logan Perridon took home 2nd at 120. At 132, Jacob Boleyn took home 3rd. At 138, Colby Charles took 3rd. Tanner Hixson won 2nd at 152. Haden Harper took 2nd at 152. James Dubois took 3rd at 160. Ryan Parshall, at 170, took 3rd. Gage Miller took 1st at 195. At 285 Koty Steward took first.
