Coach Justin Stratton took his wrestlers to three meets in the past two weeks with good results.

“I took 12 boys to the Smith Cotton tournament in Sedalia on Jan. 5. We medaled 10 of the 12 in their individual weight classes.”

First place finishes went to Koty Steward, Gage Miller, Kelly Rice, James Dubois, Haden Harper and Tanner Hixson. Ryan Parshall and Logan Perridon took 2nd place. Austin Burlingame and Matt Thurman got 3rd place.

It was a good tournament. They did a lot of things right at this one that we hadn’t been doing. Obviously, we have a lot to work on.

They pulled off some pretty good wins.

We haven’t gone against a lot of district opponents yet. We are wrestling a lot of bigger schools but we haven’t got to see everybody yet.

On Thursday, Jan. 10, the wrestlers went to a tri-meet in Buffalo against Glendale and Buffalo.

Against Buffalo, Austin Burlingame won because they were open at 106. At 120, Logan Perridon pinned his opponent. Josey Smotherman lost at 126. Jacob Boleyn won at 132. Matthew Thurman lost at 138. They were both Class 3. We are Class 1. Honestly, we would have beaten Buffalo if I had those two boys weigh in. Their coach came up and patted me on the back and said, “I’m sure glad your roster wasn’t complete tonight.”
