JAIL PODS PLACED – On Wednesday, Jan. 23, Zaner and Hansen Construction lifted the centerpiece of the new Cedar County Detention Center into place – the pods which will house the prisoners with two cells per pod. Jail plans call for 56 beds according to Southern Associate Commissioner John Fox. He said there will be three day rooms and that the cells can be configured as needed to house women prisoners.
Fox said the jail is pretty much on schedule for a July 1, 2013, completion, with “no surprises.” Now that the cells are in place, construction will begin on the concrete block walls. The basement, which is already poured, will have 45 – 48 parking places for the public and court house employees.
