Bonnie Belle (Fields) Smith, 91, rural El Dorado Springs, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Jan. 21, 2013. She was born on July 28, 1921, to Oat and Pearl Fields in Cedar County, the fourth of eight children.

Bonnie was united in marriage to George Lee Smith on May 20, 1939. To this union, three children were born – Janice May Floyd, Ginger Lee Sappenfield and Lloyd Lyle Smith. Bonnie also had one step-son, George Lee.

Bonnie, a tireless soul, worked from sixth grade on through her whole life. George’s health and many injuries caused Bonnie to be the main bread winner. Though she suffered many setbacks due to car accidents and crippling arthritis, her spirit was never reduced.

When Bonnie was not occupied in selfless caring and dedication to others, she dearly loved to fish, mushroom hunt, sew, garden and cook. Her ultimate joy was holding her grandchildren and putting a smile on their faces.

Preceding her in death were her mother and father; husband, George Lee Smith; three sisters – Betty Jo Raines, Eunice Elliston and Doris Todd; one brother, Floyd Wayne Fields; one great-niece, Kari Williams, and one nephew, Harold Wayne Smith.

Survivors include her children – Janice and Dean Floyd, Ginger and Kent Sappenfield, Lloyd and Krista Smith and George and Donna Houston; one brother, R.G. and Brenda Fields; two sisters, Fern Cruse and Dot Smith; nine grandchildren – Randy Floyd, Becky Melton, Amanda Juarez, Troy Smith, Cindra Houston, Tiffany Sappenfield, Brandi Stauber, Ryan Smith and Derek Smith; 15 great-grandchildren – Mitch Todd, Tony Todd, Daniel Wosoba, Kara Floyd, Whitney Gentry, Randall Floyd, Cody Smith, Corey Juarez, Cody Juarez, Anna Smith, Ethan Smith, Elia Smith, Levi Smith, Lydia Smith and Jonas Stauber; and four great-great grandchildren – Riley Boyd, Terry Gentry, Tyler Gentry and Alayna Todd.

Services were held Thursday, Jan. 24, in Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with Brent Bland, James Coleman and Joe Hall officiating. Burial followed El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Daniel Wosoba, Barry Melton, Randy Floyd, Randall Sherman Floyd, Ryan Smith and Derek Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Dane Perry, W.D. Eason and Don Heiber.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Compassus and left at the funeral home.
