Twenty-eight members of TOPS 0319 MO met in the El Dorado Springs Church Of Christ Meeting Room on Thursday Jan. 31.
We will hold an open on Thursday, Feb. 14. The public is invited to attend. Watch the paper next week for more information.
Robbie called the meeting to order and Kay led us in singing “Take Off Pounds”. We said our TOPS and KOPS pledges and had roll call.
There were several good losses today. Tom lost 2.4 lbs, Becky M. lost 2.2. Judy K lost 2.0. Linda Y lost 1.6. Marie lost 1.6. The best loser of the week was Verna with a loss of 5.6 lbs. The club had a 9.2 lb. net loss this week.
We welcomed Becky S. back to our chapter. Becky has been away for sometime due to taking care of family. We are so glad to have her back with us. She has been with a TOPS chapter in the KC area and has lost considerable weight. Juda asked her to tell us how she is doing this. Becky said she has lost weight using the exchange program and has cut out sweets. She says the exchange program is so easy to use and the cards TOPS furnish make it even easier. She said she drinks mostly water and exercises 30 minutes a day three times a week.
Juda reported on the current contest which involves using the exchange cards. Jessica is currently in first place followed by Doris III and Becky M. Those in the contest and using the exchange cards report it is easy and they find they are losing weight.
We sang Happy Anniversary to Bob and Marie. They are celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary today. They have six children, 18 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. We also sang Happy Anniversary to Linda Y who is also celebrating a wedding anniversary.
Kay had the program today. She spoke on nutritional news she receives. She said dried beans, peas and lentils are a great source of protein and work so well for diabetics. The cost is low and they are easy to prepare. We should also add more nuts and seeds to our diet. When choosing peanut butter, be sure to choose one with a limited amount of sugar.
When eating fruit leave the peeling on as that is were the nutrients are.
Some of the healthiest foods are almonds, apples, blueberries, beets, spinach and sweet potatoes.
She said one new test to determine a healthy body is to divide your hip measurement into waist measurement. Women should be less than .82 to be considered healthy. Kay’s program sparked some really good group discussion, which is so helpful.
