Loretta Vandenburg Price, 80, the daughter of George Everett and Ertis Eliza (Kiger) Vandenburg, was born March 24, 1932, on a farm west of Nevada and passed from this life at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs surrounded by her family and church family singing praises to God.
Loretta attended school at Metz, Badger and then Walker where she graduated in 1951 as class Valedictorian. On May 5, 1957, she was united in marriage to Newton Andy Price, the love of her life, and to their union three children were born. Loretta spent her life caring for her children and later her grandchildren. She cherished family times with each and every one of them and in her later years adored her great- grandchildren. She always enjoyed taking care of the animals – cows, hogs, cats and dogs.
The last three years she had been attending Myrtle Tree Fellowship in Rich Hill. She looked forward to the hugs from her church family each week.
Survivors include her three children – Linda Schlueter and her husband, Warren – Hume, Wilbur Price and his wife, Lisa – Schell City and Mildred Salsbury and her husband, George – Harwood, seven grandchildren – Dwan Baker and Ron, Dustin DowDell and Kalee, Rebecca Forgey and Matt, Jeremy Price and Monica, Nona Salsbury, Mary Ann Schlueter and Andrew Schlueter, eight great-grandchildren – Hunter, Desarae, and Nathan Baker, Dusty and Kody DowDell, Andy Price, and Remington and Kimberlin Loretta Forgey, one brother, George Vandenburg, and his wife, Wilma – Richards, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, one sister – Edna, one brother – Leonard and her husband, Newton.
Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the First Baptist Church in Schell City with Pastor Jonathan Beckett, Pastor Robert Titus and Pastor Jack Stout officiating. Musical selections were provided by Sharon Goodman and Allen and Vicky Cumpton. Pallbearers were Andrew Schlueter, Jeremy Price, Dustin DowDell, Matt Forgey, Ron Baker, Jack Stout, Allen Cumpton and Victor Recinos. Interment was is the Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City. Memorial contributions are suggested the Myrtle Tree Human Video Ministry in Rich Hill. Arrangements for Mrs. Price were entrusted to the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City.
