Gary Collins, Dederick, made a chilling discovery when he went to the home of his mother, Vera Collins, Monday.

There were three bullet holes in the bedroom wall. While she was asleep, someone fired what appeared to be .45 caliber bullets into the room from Hwy. K. One of the bullets struck the mattress about three inches below where her feet were resting.

Mrs. Collins said she did not hear any gunshots. She was not injured.

A Vernon County deputy responded to the scene and began an investigation.

Gary said the shots had to be fired Saturday night or Sunday night.
