Ferrel Eugene McMasters, 79, El Dorado Springs, passed away at his home on Feb. 16, 2013.

Ferrel was born on July 10, 1933, to J. Harvey and Mary “Molly” Elizabeth McMasters in Dadeville. He was the youngest of 16 children.

After graduating from Greenfield High School, Ferrel joined the United States Navy and served in the Korean War.

On June 4, 1968, Ferrel was united in marriage to Mary Cathryn “Katie” Wills. They were happily married for 42 years. They shared Katie’s sons, Steve and Mike Wills.

Ferrel worked many years for the International Shoe Co. and O’Sullivan’s. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church. In his spare time, he loved to fish, hunt, play music, and spend time with his family and friends. In retirement, Ferrel enjoyed spending time with his “buddies” at the coffee shop and hosting fish fries for family and friends.

Ferrel was a devoted family man and was dearly loved by his family for his warm heart and gentle sense of humor. He will be missed by all that knew him and were blessed by his presence.

Ferrel was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Katie; his parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by two sisters, Phyllis and Geneva; two brothers, Clyde and Lee; two stepsons, Steve and Mike Wills; two grandsons, Jesse Wills and Jackson and wife – Sarah Wills and two great-grandsons, Jonathon and Gabriel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Fullington Cemetery in care of Sheldon Funeral Home.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Fullington Cemetery, Cane Hill, with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Casketbearers were Jesse Wills, Leland McMasters, Jackson Wills, Mike McMasters, Monte Russell, Terry McMasters and Dale Bishop.
