RSVP offers opportunities for volunteer service

Deanna Brown, RSVP Project Director seeks volunteers for program. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program – a division of Senior Corps, and sponsored by Care Connection for Aging Services offers individuals age 55 and better the opportunity to use their talents and commitment by assisting non-profit and human service agencies within their communities.

Deanna says that our communities are filled people that want to help out, give back and utilize their skills. So many of our services and programs are available by the commitment of volunteers. Using one's professional skills can help an organization save money, whether someone can offer accounting, website design, advisory board or writing articles and newsletters. The volunteer helps offset the cost of paid staff, enhances services provided and the volunteer meets new friends, exposes themselves to people with the same interests and finds fulfillment.

It is a win –win for all involved; we have non-profits that could desperately use your help. When volunteers enter the program, they are asked about their interests and skills, given opportunities to choose from and matched with a volunteer station in need.

Some established volunteer opportunities include Administration tasks, Friendly Visitor, Driver Transportation and Physical Fitness Instructors for the Matter of Balance program, just to name a few. RSVP offers both long-term placements with regular schedules and one-day opportunities so that volunteers can participate when most convenient to them, or an opportunity to volunteer from your own home.

As part of the RSVP corps, volunteers receive a variety of benefits including supplemental insurance, regular recognition and on-going notification about volunteer opportunities in Benton, Cedar, Henry, Hickory and St. Clair counties. In addition to seeking potential volunteers, community organizations are needed to partner with RSVP to receive volunteer recruits.

Please stop by the El Dorado Springs Senior Center or call 417/282-RSVP for more information about volunteering in your community.
