The El Dorado Springs R-II Speech and Debate team went to Lamar on Feb. 16 and came back with three trophies.

Sophia Marsh earned 1st in Prose/Poetry and 3rd in Humorous Interpretation. Kylie Goodwin grabbed some hardware by earning 3rd in Storytelling.

The group was small at this tournament because of a Show Choir competition at Nevada the same day. In fact, everybody but the trophy winners were freshman members of the team. Despite the small group and overall inexperience, El Dorado Springs still represented themselves well.

Earningpersonal achievements that day were Brenden Howell and Levi Losinger, who both broke to semifinals in Extemporaneous Speaking. Levi finished 8th and Brenden finished 12th overall.

Breanna Uptegrove and Shelby Ray finished 7th with their Duet Acting performance, making them one spot from being in the finals. Landon Mays and Spencer Young finished in 11th with their Duet Acting. Competing were Hannah Kruckenberg with Humorous Interpretation and Shelby Ray with Dramatic Interpretation.

Just before Lamar, the team traveled to Crowder College in Neosho. On Feb. 15, the team performed their one-act, Addict. Cast members include Ashley Brown, Janel Brown, Katie Bruggeman, Cameron Collins, Brandon Compton, Kylie Goodwin, Tommie Hardy, Ashlee Hicks, John King, Michaela Leedy, Sandra May, Taylor North, Hannah Robertson and Sydney Robertson. Crew members were Emily Marbough on sound board, Kyle Robertson on light board and Andrea Nikodim on sound design.

The Neosho tournament scheduled to be held Feb. 22-23 was canceled due to snow, so the team will only compete in post-season tournaments at this point.

MSHSAA Districts will be held this week, with the one-act competing on Tuesday, Individual Events on Friday and Debate on Saturday. NFL Districts will follow in March 15-16. Students scoring well at MSHSAA Districts advance to State competition in April. Students scoring well at NFL Districts advance to the National Tournament in Birmingham in June.

The Spring Showcase will be held March 23. This is a free performance featuring performances by many of this year’s trophy winners.
