Walker Christian Church will have their Spring Revival starting March 3-6, with Travis Hurley speaking at 7 p.m. each evening. A fellowship dinner was held Sunday to kick off the revival.
Walker Christian Church will host their Men’s Banquet on Monday, March 11. All area men are invited to attend the meal and hear Doug Aldridge.
Glen and Alberta Hays went to Gainesville Saturday to an OES Official Inspection. On the way home, they stopped at the Rockbridge Mill for dinner. It is a Rainbow Trout Ranch where you can fish, etc. They reported it “very pretty”. They both had frog legs and thought they were delicious – some of the best they had ever had, but thought it was a long way to drive to have frog legs. They attended Donnie and Vernille Cubbage’s 50th wedding anniversary reception Sunday.
Last Sunday, a birthday dinner was held at the home of Frank and Renee Weisensee in honor of the 18th birthday of their grandson, Forest Mitchell. Others attending were Paul Scougal, Lisa and Lance Christine, Regan, Hayden and Grace, Buck and Christi Mitchem, Forest and Shiloh, Rob and Christina Weisensee, Michael, Christopher, Amber, and Rebecca, Jennifer and Kevin Gilpin, Caleb, Abigail, Emilia, Katrina and Luke. The Gilpin family visited Frank and Renee this Sunday.
Jody Cauthon, Wilma Zartman and I went to the home of Jane Hutchison Monday afternoon to help tie a quilt she made for the 54 Cruiser’s Car Club to raffle off and give away at their car show May 11. We got about half done when the big white flakes began rushing down and left her to finish it by herself.
The community expresses sympathy to Clayton Arnold and family on the loss of his mother, Lois Arnold.
Bob and Jane Hutchison went to the home of Lois and Jim Herbst at El Dorado Springs Saturday at noon for a fish fry in honor of the birthday of Jim Ogle. Others present were Jim and Jeanie Ogle, Bill and Sally Hawkins. Debbie and Denny Wallace visited Bob and Jane Hutchison Sunday afternoon.
Madyson and Mason Majors spent the weekend with their grandparents, Bob and Linda Majors.
Chet Foreman, and Christine Graham and Corey joined Charles and me for lunch in Nevada Sunday after which Charles, Chet, and I attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of Donald and Vernille Cubbage. There was a large crowd in attendance and if I tried to tell of even the ones in this area, I’d miss some and be in trouble. It was a very nice celebration.
Marla Foreman and Regan Kannady attended a volleyball game in Springfield over the weekend.
Jered, Crystal, Kate and Cole Burch traveled to Lamar to Antler Ridge to pick up Kate’s bow for 4-H archery season, which begins soon. Kate took advantage of the indoor shooting range and practiced.
Saturday the Walker Christian Youth Group “Engaged” had a booth at the Nevada Youth Expo.
Tony, Ashley and Jessa Patton from Olathe spent the weekend with his parents, Marty and Rich Patton. Jenna Lowry was also here for the week-end from Joplin. On Saturday, Don and Edith Stockstill joined them and they all went out to lunch to celebrate Jenna’s birthday which will be Tuesday. Sunday afternoon Marty took Don and Edith to Donald and Vernille Cubbage’s 50th anniversary reception which was held at the Fellowship Hall of the First Christian Church in Nevada.
Visiting Elnora Wallace this week were Jack and Sharon Wallace, Suzanne Prough, and Danielle McWilliams.
NEVC School was closed Tuesday and Wednesday because of snow days.
Brianna, Claire and Kelsie Willson spent some time with their grandparents, Gilbert and Eleanor Willson, due to their school being closed for snow days. Gilbert and Eleanor went to Joplin Wednesday and attended the Country Music Show in Fort Scott Sunday afternoon.
Kathryn Phillips attended the 50th wedding anniversary reception of Donald and Vernille Cubbage Sunday.
Jessica Barnett and children spent the weekend with her cousin, Tracy and James Washburn, Corbin, Declan and Jaycee. Corbin tried to take down a snow-covered tree limb which snapped off and cut his chin. They ended up in the emergency room getting stitches which wasn’t on the scheduled plan.
Jenise and Jerry Burch and Jered and Crystal Burch attended the Nevada Vernon County Chamber of Commerce Gala at the Eagles with Lance and Lisa Christie and enjoyed the Dueling Pianos entertainment.
Lauren Eaton spent Sunday afternoon at the Burches while Cole Burch spent the afternoon with the Eaton Family.
Congratulations to Danny and Christine Eaton, celebrating their 40th anniversary on March 11.
Nancy and JaWan Thompson were Charles and my dinner guests Wednesday.
Weather permitting, the Walker Senior Citizens will have a lunch and get-together March 12, at noon at the Walker Community Building.
The Schell City Alumni officers will hold a planning meeting March 10 at 4 p.m. at the home of Jerry and Jenise Burch. The alumni reunion will be held in May on Memorial Day weekend.
