A Hickory County case alleging abuse of a child resulting in death and the filing of two charges, assault in the second degree and murder in the second degree has been moved to Vernon County on a change-of-venue. Daniel D. Mathiesen is charged in the case.

The infant was taken from a home at Weaubleau to Sac-Osage Hospital, Osceola, and later transferred to Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, where it died June 11, 2012.

Circuit Judge James R. Bickel has scheduled a pre-hearing conference for May 14 in Nevada and recently took under advisement the defendant’s request for a reduction in his $200,000 bond.

The infant reportedly was the baby of Mathiesen’s girlfriend which he picked up at her sister’s home last June 5 and later called the girlfriend when the baby developed problems.

The Hickory County Sheriff’s probable cause statement said that a forensic pathologist performed an autopsy and diagnosed the cause of death as Shaken Impact Syndrome.
