Jo Ann (Hair) Cochran, 84, was born in Butler on March 7, 1929, to Abba and Hazel (Crosslen) Hair and passed away April 2, 2013 after a 29 – month illness.
One of 11 children, she grew up in the Butler and Adrian areas. Jo Ann was baptized at the age of 12.
Jo Ann attended school up to the eighth grade. At 16 years old, Jo Ann worked as a nurse. She worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, General Hospital in Clinton, Nevada (MO) Hospital and Osceola Hospital for Dr. Giesler in Osceola and retired from nursing in 1968.
Jo Ann met Merle Cochran and was married on March 12, 1948, in Independence. Jo Ann loved to cook large meals for her family and neighbors as well as gardening and sewing. She helped on her farm for 38 years selling Grade A milk and dairy farming, serving three years on the FHA board before retiring in 1990.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Bud; four sisters – Margaret, Betty, Mary and Sally; and one infant daughter, Katherine Loraine, in 1954.
Jo Ann is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Merle of the home; one son, Buell – El Dorado Springs; three grandchildren – Scott Cochran, Shelly Breedlove and Misty Cochran; five great –grandchildren – Tylan, Brittany, Blake, William and Zoyie; four sisters – Peggy – Windsor and Katy, Linda and Judy – all from Kansas City; one brother, William – El Dorado Springs and a host of friends.
Services were held Monday, April 8, in Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, with Bro. Everett Smith officiating. Music was “One Day At A Time” and “Precious Memories.” Interment was in Union Point Cemetery, southeast of Tiffin, under direction of Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
