4-2 @ Warsaw
The Bulldogs traveled to Warsaw on Tuesday, April 2, where they lost 12-2. The Bulldogs had four hits on the night a double by Kason Schwalm, and singles by Koty Steward, Robert Keith and Spencer Young. Hesston Stark was the losing pitcher going 2 1/3 innings giving up 6 hits, 8 runs, but only 2 earned runs. Mistakes plagued the Bulldogs as they made 9 fielding errors allowing Warsaw to break open the game.
4-3 vs. Stockton
On Wednesday, April 3, the Bulldogs hosted the Stockton Tigers in the home opener with thrilling 5-4 win. The Bulldogs made the most of 4 hits scoring 5 runs to outlast Stockton for the win. Lucas Garver singled and walked, Hesston Stark singled, James Dubois singled and Kason Schwlam had a double and an RBI. Spencer Young picked up the win for the Bulldogs going 3 1/3 innings giving up 1 hit, 3 earned runs, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Derrick Taylor came in a relief role picking up the save for the Bulldogs pitching 3 2/3 innings 3 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
4-5 vs. Pembroke Hill @ Clinton Tournament
In the first game of the Clinton Tournament on Friday, April 5, the Bulldogs ran in to a very good Pembroke Hill team losing 15-0. The Bulldogs only got 1 hit of very good Pembroke Hill pitching with a Hesston Stark double in the first inning. Koty Steward was the losing pitcher for the Bulldogs going 1 inning and giving up 6 earned runs and 1 walk.
4-6 vs. Adrian @ Clinton Tournament
On Saturday, April 6, the Bulldogs picked up their second win of the season with a 14-8 victory over Adrian. The Bulldogs pounded out 14 runs on 14 hits to outscore Adrian. Lucas Garver was 3-4 with a double and a walk, Kason Schwalm was 3-4 with a triple and 2 RBI’s, Hesston Stark was 1-5 with a single and 3 RBI’s, Robert Keith was 1-3 with a triple and an RBI, Derrick Taylor was 2-4 with a double, Koty Steward was 1-5, and Spencer Young was 2-3 with an RBI to round out the the 14 hits for the Bulldogs. Hesston Stark picked up his first win of the season going 3 innings, giving up 3 earned runs, 3 walks and striking out 4 Adrian batters. Kason Schwalm pitched 2 1/3 innings of 1 hit relief, giving up 1 hit and 1 walk and striking out 2 batters in a scoreless relief effort to nail down the win for the Bulldogs.
4-6 vs. Adrian @ Clinton Tournament
In the second game on Saturday the Bulldogs lost to Clinton 23-8 with the inability of the Bulldogs to make routine plays costing them. Clinton also out hit the Bulldogs by 23-8, the same margin as the final score. Kason Schwalm was 1-3 with a triple and 2 RBI’s, Hesston Stark was 1-3, Koty Steward was 1-3 with 2 RBI’s, Robert Keith was 2-3, Matt Hackleman was 2-3 with an RBI, and Spencer Young was 1-1 to round out the hitting for the Bulldogs. Dirrick Taylor was the tough luck losing pitcher for the Bulldogs going 3 innings, giving up 10 runs, but none were earned as the defense struggled to make plays behind him.
4-8 vs. Knob Noster @ Holden Tournament
The first game of the Holden Tournament saw the Bulldogs pick up their third win of the season with an 11-1 win over the Knob Noster Panthers. Spencer Young was dominate on the mound for the Bulldogs only giving up 1 hit and 1 earned run over 4 2/3 innings while striking out 8 hitters. Koty Steward led the Bulldog offense with a 3-3 night with a double and 2 RBI’s, Hesston Stark was 2-4 with 2 singles, Lucas Garver, Derrick Taylor, Kason Schwalm, Richard Lyness and Spencer Young all added hits for the Bulldogs in the 11-1 win.
4-8 vs. Lone Jack @ Holden Tournament
In the second game of the Holden Tournament the Bulldogs lost 11-4 to Lone Jack. Koty Steward was 1-2 with a double, Lucas Garver was 1-2 with 2 walks, Kason Schwalm was 1-4 with an RBI, and Lance Molz was 1-3 with an RBI. Kason Schwalm picked up the loss going 3 2/3 innings, allowing 7 hits, 5 earned runs, 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
SAFE AT 3RD – Tanner Widener slid into third just ahead of the throw from the Stockton pitcher during the game last Wednesday.
GOT IT – Bulldog Derrick Taylor waited under a Stockton pop-up last Wednesday and put the squeeze on the ball when it finally came back to earth.
EASY OUT – Bulldog Pitcher Spencer Young retrieved a knubber from the Stockton player and fired the ball to First Baseman Koty Steward for the out.
GOOD RIP – Lucas Garver got a good look at the offering from the Stockton pitcher but didn’t make contact that time. He singled and walked in the game.
