Twenty-three members of TOPS 0319 met for the weekly meeting and weighed in at the Church of Christ in El Dorado Springs on Thursday April 18.
Dorothy called the meeting to order and Kay led us in singing.
We said our pledges and had roll call.
Linda Y. lost 3 pounds this week, but she had to leave before the meeting. Therefore, Nikki had lost 2 pounds so she was our best loser for the week. Other good losers were Verna with a two week loss of 3.6 pounds. Tammy had a 1.6 loss and Warren had a loss of 1 pound. Congratulations to all. The club had a net loss of 5.2 pounds.
Marie reported that Nellie is in St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. She can use our cards and prayers. Nellie is a current member of our TOPS club and a friend to all of us.
Jan’s father, John, is in the El Dorado Springs hospital and is not doing well. He needs our prayers. John was a long time member of our TOPS club and was our Club’s King at SRD several years ago. He is a good friend to many of us in our TOPS Club. He recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Robbie had received a call from Wilma. Wilma said she is having some serious health problems. Wilma was a former member of our club and a good friend to many here in the club. Please remember her with a card and your prayers.
Linda H. had the program for today. Her first question was, what is our old story? She gave each of us a sheet of paper with questions as to what made us start gaining weight in the first place. She reminded us that we alone are the stars of our story. What needs to be done to change our story? How do we define ourselves? Do we let our weight dictate our story? Are we making tracks in our brain with the thoughts that we think? Can thinking negatively hinder us in our attempt to succeed? We need to get rid of our old habits that are keeping us from losing weight. It takes a lot to get rid of an old habit. And it takes 30 days in a row to create a new habit. Why did you start your weight gain? You need to go back to your past to see what you need to change. She asked us to give some examples on what caused our weight gain, and what we can do to change. Juda said one of her biggest problems is that everything revolves around food. Doris S. said that age makes it more difficult to exercise and lose weight. Annie said that she started gaining when she had to work all different shifts and some of them were night shifts. It was said that going out to eat made it more difficult to keep track of the calories that you are eating.
Linda told us that we needed to use our imagination. Remember “you can achieve your dream” Dream big. Get rid of junk food in your house. Share your ideas with friends and family. Surround yourself with encouraging and positive friends and family. That is why TOPS is so important to us. We are all here to encourage and help each other in TOPS.
We need to start a new story. What obstacles do we face? Do something that you enjoy when exercising. That will keep you exercising if you are enjoying it. It is also easier if you have someone to exercise with, it keeps you accountable for what you do. Write it all down, what you put in your mouth, thoughts, progress, results, etc. We all have our life stories. We must start anew when what we are doing is not giving us the results that we want. “Life is not about finding yourself, but about creating yourself.”
“As On Our Way We Go” Pertaining to helping each other, we are in this together. As we go on our way together.
