April 13 @ Holden
The El Dorado Bulldogs Baseball team finished 2nd in the Holden tournament after they lost 10-0 to Holden in the Championship Game. The Bulldogs had a hard time with Holden pitching, getting only 3 hits on the night, 2 by Kason Schwalm and 1 by Robert Keith. Holden mustered 10 hits off of 3 different Bulldog pitchers, Derrick Taylor, Spencer Young and Kason Schwalm to cruise to the win.
April 15 @ Carthage
The El Dorado Springs Baseball team traveled to Carthage on Monday, April 15, where they lost to a very good Tigers team, 9-1. Tanner Widener was the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs lasting 4 2/3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned runs, walking 7 and striking out 1. He was followed by Kason Schwalm who pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned runs, 2 walks and 1 strikeout.
The Bulldogs got 4 hits off of Carthage pitching, 1 each by Spencer Young, Kason Schwlam, Koty Steward and James Dubois. We had our chances to score more runs but just couldn’t get the big hits to get back in the game.
April 19 vs. Sheldon
The Bulldogs hosted Sheldon on Friday, April 19, and lost a game they should have won, 8-7. Three fielding errors led to 4 unearned for Sheldon which helped them erase a 7-2 deficit to win by 1.
Spencer Young started the game and pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing 2 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned runs, 6 walks and 6 strikeouts. Derrick Taylor pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief, giving up 3 hits, 4 unearned runs, 2 walks and striking out 7 in the hard luck loss.
Koty Steward was 1-3 at the plate with a double and 2 RBI’s, a walk and a run scored. Kason Schwalm went 1-3 at the plate with a single and an RBI. James Dubois was 2-4, with a walk and a run scored. Tanner Widener was 1-2 with a walk and a run scored to round out the hitting for the Bulldogs.
April 22 @ Buffalo
On Monday, April 22, the Bulldogs traveled to Buffalo where they lost 6-5 as their come-from-behind effort came up a bit short.
The Bulldogs got behind early and trailed 6-0 in the 6th inning when the Bulldog bats came to life and scored 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning. Robert Keith started the inning with a walk. Derrick Taylor singled to left field. Spencer Young singled to left field. Hesston Stark singled in the 1st Bulldog run, followed by a 2 RBI single to right field from Kason Schwlam and then Koty Steward had an RBI sacrifice fly to right field to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Hesston Stark pitched a scoreless bottom of the 6th inning to keep the Bulldogs close as Tanner Widener led off the top of the 7th inning with a double, followed by a RBI single by Robert Keith to make it a 1 run game. Derrick Taylor then bunted Robert Keith over to second. Spencer Young grounded out and Hesston Stark struck out as the Bulldog rally came up 1 run short.
SLIDING HOME – During the home game with Sheldon last Friday, Derrick Taylor took advantage of a passed ball to score from third base.
SAFE AT SECOND – Richard Lyness successfully stole second during the Bulldogs game with Sheldon as the second baseman couldn’t handle the throw from the Sheldon catcher.
PASSED BALL – Robert Keith tried, unsuccessfully, to put a tag on a Sheldon runner after a ball got away from him.
