There were 78 public school retirees who attended the MRTA (Missouri Retired Teachers’ Association) Region 6 Annual Meeting held in Osceola, on Friday, April 12, one of the biggest crowds in the past few years. The St. Clair County Unit of MRTA hosted the meeting which was held at the Osceola Assembly of God Church. Members enjoyed a delicious BBQ brisket meal, with all the extras and catered by the Church ladies, as well as, several wonderful baked goods throughout the morning.
Recently elected MRTA Region 6 Vice-President Arleta Godwin conducted the meeting as one of her duties and responsibilities. In addition, special guests and speaking at the meeting were MRTA President Mark Hargens, Jim Kreider, MRTA Executive Director; Walter Cochran, MRTA Foundation President and Tom Wales from F.T. Jones. Region 6 consists of nine counties including: Bates, Benton, Cedar, Dallas, Henry, Hickory, Polk, St. Clair, and Vernon Counties.
Honored at the meeting and presenting updates from their Committee area were the Region 6 Officers: Glenda Ware – Community Service, Jane Bowden – Legislative, Leta Gass – Membership; however, absent were Eva Marie Glor – Information and Protective Services and Jan Mann – Retirement Education and Planning, but information was shared by other individuals.
Attendees were informed of the current focus of MRTA, “Shifting Gears,” given the latest updates from all committees, as well as, the latest news on the legislative front regarding any bills that would affect their public school retirement. Other guests for the event were Representative Warren Love who spoke to the group and fielded some questions and Cathy Roberts, from Lakeland R-III, Region 6 Classroom Grant Winner.
