Farm Bureau to host first Agri-Bee Friday

Posted May 2, 2013 at 9:54 am

The Cedar County Farm Bureau will sponsor the first county-wide Agri-Bee (Agricultural Spelling Bee). The 15 finalists will compete at the Cedar County Courthouse beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, May 3.

Its similar to a spelling bee only all the words are agriculture related. The students have to spell and define the word in order to advance to the next round.

All 4th and 5th graders have been invited to participate. The teachers have held preliminary rounds and selected one student from each teacher’s classroom to go to the championship to be held in the upstairs courtroom of the Cedar County Courthouse.

Each finalist will receive a certificate, an “ag fact” pencil and a t-shirt. The top three fourth graders and the top three fifth graders will receive medals; the overall winner in 4th grade and the top winner in 5th will receive a Barnes Nook Computer Tablet. Each student who participated in the classroom competitions will also receive a pencil.

We are very excited about sponsoring this event and hope you can make it Friday night.
